First stop was the Dick Kleberg Park in the city of Kingsville, Texas. This is a large park where it looks like they hold all the ball games and soccer games. I wondered who Dick Kleberg was and why they named a park after him so I looked it up.

Richard M. Kleberg Sr. was born in 1887. He was a Democratic Senator in the House of Representatives for seven terms. He was the son of Alice Gertrudis King and Robert Justus Kleberg, and therefore was an heir to the King Ranch which is the largest ranch in the United States. The King Ranch is just down the road from the city of Kingsville.

The second stop was the Hazel Bazemore County Park in Corpus Christi. We were especially interested in the Hawkwatch Platform. This park is beautiful with lots of fishing spots. The platform was everything I hoped it would be.

We did not see any hawks but we did see this pair of Cardinals.

And boy was I surprised by this stunning Green Jay. I have never seen this bird before with green feathers, a yellow underbelly, and a blue head. What a treat to see one for the first time. We might say we are not birdwatchers, but I think we are becoming birdwatchers.

The third park we explored today was Lake Corpus Christi State Park. This park has a lot of nice picnic areas and camping spots. The state park covers just a tiny corner of this huge lake.

The lake was calm and beautiful today. There are a couple of nice fishing piers we walked out on. We did not see any wildlife other than a few birds and some ducks in the water.

Today was a beautiful day for parking.
