Gravesite of Don Pedro Jaramillo

So who was Don Pedrito Jaramillo and why should I want to visit his shrine?

Don Pedro Jaramillo was a traditional medicine man, Saint, Healer, and Holy Man of the late 19th century. He was a healer who gave all the glory to God. Sometimes he would perform healings over 500 people per day — Mexicans, Americans, and Native Americans.

Don Pedro Jaramillo was born in Jalisco, Mexico and he himself was healed by God and then was given the power of healing in a vision. He came to the Los Olmos Ranch in Texas in 1881 and began to heal people. He never took the credit but always gave the credit to God. He never charged money for his healings. People would give if they wanted to, but he always gave everything he made to charity. He traveled widely in this area of Texas to visit the sick.

I have heard that thousands of people have made the pilgrimage to pray at this shrine where he is buried. We are only thirty miles away and I want to see it for myself.

We were the only ones there today. What a wonderful quiet place to visit and lift up prayers to God for family members who are sick or need healing. Sometimes it just takes a reminder like this to quiet your heart and think of all the friends and family members dealing with struggles and speak their names before God in a Holy place.

It is a small but mighty place that everyone should visit once if they get the chance.
