Padre Island and Mustang Island are separated only by the small pass of water called Fish Pass. If you go to Padre Island it would be foolish not to go ahead and see Mustang Island as well.

The cost to enter the state park is $5 per adult, but we went into the park office and purchased an annual pass for $70. This will get both of us into any Texas State Park for a whole year for free. We plan to be in Texas for a while and there are a lot of state parks I want to visit so I believe it will pay for itself soon.

This park is 3,954 acres but Rich and I only saw a small part of it. We walked a short part of the beach, and yes we collected more shells, but we did not drive any of the paths or walk any trails. This beach was also filled with jellyfish and lots of birds.

We will be here for the whole month of January and we may have to take the time to make another trip to look for sea turtles and drive the back roads that we missed this time. Just being at the beach, feeling the sand and water on your feet, and smelling the fresh ocean air is relaxing. I may have to go back with a lawn chair and sit for the whole day with my feet in the water.
