The Sound of Alien Ships

Paulding County Ohio Windmills

I wish you could hear the whooshing sound of the huge windmill spinning in the wind as I sit here in the early morning quiet hours writing. It reminds of the sound heard in countless movies when they detect alien ships on the radar.

Paulding County Ohio is home to 188 wind turbines. It is one of the smallest counties in Ohio but contains a large amount of windmills for as small as it is. Van Wert County Ohio is home to over 200 now. The Blue Creek Wind Farm spans through both counties in Northwest Ohio and is the largest wind station in the state.

The wind in the air turns the blades around a rotor, which is attached to the main shaft, which spins a generator to create electricity. It’s a simple concept really. One that has been around for years.

We’ve seen a lot of the 18th century windmills across the desert plains as we have traveled and explored National Parks. The simple design of the water pump windmills on the American Plains were small and lightweight and could pump water from 300 feet below the surface.
