Yes, this is one of the oddest things we have seen since in Texas, but I am all about driving around and finding these quirky offbeat tourist attractions to see for myself. We were on Highway 281 South and Rich said, “So what are you taking me to see?” And I said, “The world’s largest killer bee.” Enough said. He knew better than to say anything else. I am always taking him to questionable places or down questionable roads.

I did not know the story behind the massive bee statue, so of course, I Googled it while we were driving and read the story out loud.

Who knew that killer bees came across the border at Hidalgo from Mexico in 1990 and swarmed the town? They became known as the killer bee capital of the world, so through the ingenious creativity of the town mayor, he capitalized on it and made it a good thing. When given lemons, make lemonade with them.
