Highway 385 south from Marathon, Texas dead ends at Big Bend National Park. After passing the first visitor center at Persimmon Gap the road continues for another 26 miles to the next visitor center, but there are several exhibits along the way you don’t want to miss.

About two thirds of the way is the Fossil Discovery Exhibit. It is about eighteen miles from the main entrance. Turn left and the parking lot is a short distance. There is a restroom facility at this location.

The first thing to explore is the large super croc sculpture and information signs. This display has covered picnic tables for a great place to sit and let the kids explore.

Giant crocodiles lived in this area millions of years ago when it was swampland. In this area of Big Bend, they discovered dinosaur bones that had huge teeth in them, or huge teeth marks. These sculptures are great for kids to explore and the signs are full of information.

Rich saw this one and said, “Look, a wishbone.”
