At the northern tip of Mustang Island in Port Aransas, Texas is the Nature Preserve at Charlie’s Pasture. This nature preserve is 1,217 acres of marsh and wooded habitat that is undeveloped. It has been preserved for environmental, ecological, and historical purposes.

We parked at the end of Port Street just past the entrance to the ferry. There was a nice pavilion and toilet facility. We stopped and had a late picnic lunch and watched some of the birds in the water.

The pavilion and picnic tables were wonderful. Clean and neat. No trash around. We did not take the time to walk the cement sidewalk trails as it was getting late and we still had a long drive back to the RV.

We decided to take the ferry back to the mainland instead of driving all the way back down the islands and crossing over at the JFK Causeway. This saved us a lot of time. The ferry at Port Aransas runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is absolutely free. It only took us about 4 minutes to cross the water from one side to the other. Highly recommend the Ferry across the Aransas Pass.
