Famous for its majestic views, Pikes Peak State Park in Iowa features a 500-foot bluff overlooking the Upper Mississippi River opposite the confluence of the Wisconsin River.

At an elevation of 1,130 feet, the view from the bluff overlook was amazing.

We drove along the national scenic byway south from the Effigy Mounds National Monument and didn’t want to miss the view from here. Effigy Mounds is only seven miles north of Pikes Peak State Park.

It is free to park and walk to the overlook. There was a rustic stone picnic shelter and two gazebos located in the main picnic and overlook area. Everything was really nice and clean here. It was a pleasure to find such a nice area.

From the parking lot, it was about a quarter-mile walk to the main overlook on a well-paved sidewalk and it was so worth the walk.
