Oh wow. So glad you figured this out. I have been doing the same thing.

After I click the green button that says, “Continue Reading,” I am directed to the Medium website, but this is now an “External link,” so any claps, reading time, and comments that I make are not giving the writer the credit they need under the new engagement requirements.
