Baffin Bay is about 70 miles south of Corpus Christi, Texas. It is an inlet of the larger Laguna Madre, which is a long lagoon separating the mainland from Padre Island, with Baffin Bay being one of its main extensions.

We are camping in Loyola Beach, Texas, north of Riviera Beach. Our campground is situated on the Cayo del Grullo, which is a northern finger of the Baffin Bay. There are actually three fingers that extend from the main bay water. South of Riviera is the Laguna Salada finger, and east of us is the Alazan Bay finger.

Roads are limited here. There is limited access to the water without driving some distance. The first place we can get to the water is a little beach with no name at the end of S County Rd 1150. This beach area is within walking distance. The second place is on Road 628 crossing the water to Riviera where the Kaufer-Hubert Memorial Park is.

And the third is walking through the cow pasture behind us to the beach at the owner’s house. There is a pond in the pasture where we are allowed to fish — catch and release only.

There is a small pier in the bay we are allowed to fish off of with a valid fishing license.
