The white-tailed deer is the most common and widely distributed deer in North America. The white-tailed deer have a distinctive white underside of their tail.

Mule deer have much larger ears, like that of a mule. They are mostly found in the western Great Plains, especially the Rocky Mountain region.

Mule deer bucks have distinctive white patches on the backs of their hips and males have forked antlers.
