If you are a humbug you might get a lump of coal for Christmas.

According to the National Day Calendar, which I check quite often for writing ideas, today, December 21st, is National Humbug Day.

Humbug Day recognizes all the Ebenezers, Scrooges, grinches, and curmudgeons who suck the joy out of the holiday season.

The word “humbug” is a term used to describe a person or object that behaves deceptively or dishonestly, often as a hoax or in jest. Today it is more often used as an exclamation to describe something as hypocritical nonsense or gibberish.

Whenever someone wished Ebenezer Scrooge a Merry Christmas he would say “humbug” as if to say that Christmas was a bunch of nonsense.

To put it in context for today, if someone says that Trump is going to make America great again you can say “humbug” because it is a bunch of nonsense.

Thanks for reading. And if you are a humbug, I wish you a Merry Christmas anyway, even if you do think it is a bunch of nonsense.
