In the city of Corpus Christi, Texas on Ocean Boulevard is a line of parks along the bay. One particular spot is a beautiful and meaningful memorial to victims of violent crimes.

Meant to be a place of peace and reflection, it is a place where loved ones can be remembered, not forgotten. Violence is a sickness across the globe and it is easy for individual victims of violence to be forgotten.

As I walked through this small area, I was impressed to not only read the names on the plaques, but to see a face to put with the name. This makes these victims real. I read most of the names and felt compassion and empathy for them and their families.

I especially liked the rocks at the bottom that people had painted or written on and placed at the foot of the memorial. How special this place is. I hope there is a place like this in all cities worldwide.
